Tower and Tanker Crews Battle Benedict Restaurant Fire In High Winds

On April 19, 2018, Tower 2 and Tanker 2 were dispatched to the Rivers Edge restaurant on Benedict Avenue for a report of a large structure fire. Companies arrived in the Town of Benedict to find a one-story restaurant on the water with fire throughout. According to the fire marshal the high winds played a factor with how the flames spread.

Units on the scene began a defensive attack (from the outside of the structure). A photo in this story shows Tower 2 handling this type of duty to put out the flames. Once the fire was knocked down, crews were able to enter inside and use ground hoses to put out hot spots. According to the fire marshal, high winds played a factor in the flames spreading so quickly.

As for Rivers Edge it was a restaurant in operation, but not yesterday at the the time the call went out.

According to Chief 2-A Brian Ficke the fire reportedly began in the kitchen by an employee. No civilians or firefighters were injured and units from three counties assisted with extinguishing.

The incident is currently under investigation. PFVFD units operated on the scene for three hours before clearing the scene.
