Little Girl Falls In Well, Squad 2 Assists Huntingtown VFD

On Saturday August 25, 2018, Company 2 was alerted to a little girl who fell into a well in the 1000 block of Plum Point Road. First arriving units from Huntingtown VFD found the 5-year-old who landed 30+ feet below the ground in water.

Engine 22 and Tanker 2 were already on another call, so with an additional crew at the station, Squad 2 responded.

The Calvert Recorder says, “When playing hide-and-seek with some friends, the girl climbed into an above-ground well through a metal grate that was old and rusted, according to Det. Sgt. Bruce Bevard with the Maryland State Police Prince Frederick barrack.” The child was heard yelling for help after the grate broke and 911 was called, the publication adds.

Squad 2 assisted Squad 6 with setting up rigging and provided a back up team for the incident. The child was successfully rescued and flown to Children’s Hospital, miraculously with non-life threatening injuries.

According to her family, the child is home and doing well. Great job to all first arriving crews with a swift, successful recovery!
