James “Jimmy” Billings, who is also a long-time volunteer with PFVFD, is currently deployed to Port Charlotte, FL as a paramedic with the Maryland-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team.

According to ASPR, “NDMS Disaster Medical Assistance Teams provide high-quality rapid-response medical care when public health and medical emergencies overwhelm state, local, tribal, or territorial resources.”

The teams respond to all types of disasters across the country. Currently, Jimmy and his group are on the ground at a field hospital in the area. The structure is set up and is composed of many trained specialists who help take the burden off the local hospitals, especially after Hurricane Ian.

Jimmy has served on MD-1 for 12 years and has deployed in response to major storms such as Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane Harvey. He has also assisted with several high-profile events in our nation’s capital as well as multiple missions around the nation in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
