PFVFD Hosts Southern Maryland Fireman’s Association Dinner

On Monday, July 26, 2021, the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department hosted the Southern Maryland Volunteer Fireman’s Association (SMVFA) quartely dinner. Volunteers from the tri-county area and the state of Maryland were in attendance.

During the meeting, PFVFD Life Member Maurice Cox was honored with 50 years of service to Calvert County. The award was delayed a year because of the on-going pandemic.

President Patrick Hassler was also presented with the Robert H. Shimer Administrator of the Year award for the Maryland State Fireman’s Association. Hassler was honored for his tremendous service and efforts to the Prince Fredrick Volunteer Fire Department and Calvert County.

Background on the award:

“The Robert H. Shimer Administrator of the Year award was established by the Shimer family and accepted by the MSFA Executive Committee on February 22, 2004. The award was established to honor Robert H. Shimer, for the years of dedicated service he gave the volunteer fire, rescue, and EMS service as a President and a Trustee of the MSFA, President of the Allegany-Garrett Counties Fire and Rescue Association, President of the Allegany County Fire-Rescue Board, and President of the Potomac Fire Company. Mr. Shimer was also an active member of the State Fire Prevention Commission, Maryland Fire-Rescue Education Training Commission, the Governor’s Emergency Management Advisory Council, and the Emergency Numbers Service Board. This award has been established in honor of Mr. Shimer for his many years of dedicated service to the community of Westernport, Allegany County and the State of Maryland.”

This event was the SMVFA’s first in person meeting in more than a year, and we were more than honored to host this at our new facility. We would like to thank Smokin’ Fatties BBQ for catering this event.

The Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department would like to congratulate all of the Southern Maryland award recipients.
