Engine 21 Responds To Fatal Fire In North Beach

On November 1, 2018, Engine 21 was alerted to respond to a working fire in North Beach. Crews arrived on the scene in the 8900 block of Erie Avenue to find a single-family home engulfed in flames.

According to the SoMdNews, a passerby discovered the fire and alerted first responders.

“Steve Stanton, deputy chief of the North Beach fire department and one of the firefighters who responded to the fire, said the second occupant was present when firefighters were fighting the fire and did not have any injuries. Stanton said the radiant heat of the house caused the siding of a neighboring house to begin to catch fire and firefighters suppressed the fire and heat quickly,” the publication adds.

While inside the house, a search team found the body of one male, who was deceased. The victim has since been identified as 70-year-old Robert Henry Munson Jr. SoMdNews says Munson was sleeping in bed next to his dog when the fire broke out.

The cause of the fire is unknown and the Fire Marshals office is investigating.
