Technical Rescue On Scientists Cliffs Road

On July 1, 2019, the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 1900 block of Scientists Cliffs Road for a person who fell in a well.

Upon arrival, volunteers found a man trapped eight feet below the surface. The man was conscious, but injured, and unable to free himself from the well. Volunteers from Prince Frederick, including Deputy Chief Willie Gray and Safety Officer Michael Sharpe, formulated an extrication plan that included placing the victim in a harness and using a rope system rigged to Tower 2 as an elevated anchor point.

The man was pulled to safety and turned over to the EMS team from St. Leonard and Calvert Advanced Life Support. He was then flown to an area trauma center. Volunteers from St. Leonard, Huntingtown and Dunkirk VFD also assisted with the rescue.
