75 Volunteers Respond To A Working Fire On Christmas Day

On Monday, December 25, 2023 at 11:13 a.m. the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department (PFVFD) was alerted to a reported house fire in the 2900 block of Honey Cove Court in Prince Frederick, Md.

Safety 2 (Mike Sharpe) arrived on the scene and found fire involving all three floors of a single family home. Early on in the incident, Sharpe called for additional assistance. The home on Honey Cove Court is located in an area with no hydrants. Water to fight the fire was supplied by the use of many tankers and crews also had to draft water from Battle Creek.

Volunteers from St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Department (Company 7), Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department (Company 6), Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department (Company 5), Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department (Company 3) and Calvert County Emergency Services arrived and offered assistance.

Although the fire was brought under control in less than 30 minutes, volunteers remained on location for many hours to assist with overhaul. There were no injuries to civilians and firefighters. Two family dogs were located and brought outside.

PFVFD is grateful to many agencies that assisted on the holiday with this incident including the fire departments from Charles County, Prince George’s County and neighboring St. Mary’s County. Thank you to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal, Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, Calvert County Animal Control and SMECO for assisting on site.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal for Maryland.

Thank you to PFVFD’s Karen Sharpe and Michael Braswell for the photos.
