Recently,
two of Calvert County's Long Time Volunteers were struck
with
tragedy.
Ricky Smith
of Co. 3 has been diagnosed with a life threatening
illness and
Brent Jones of Co. 4 was involved in an accident with
extensive
injuries. Come out and help support our two volunteers.

2, 2010 - At 2040 hours, Company 2 was alerted to Box 2-05 for
a trailer. E22, TL2, Tnk2, E21, RS2, C2, C2B, and C2A
responded to the 6800 block of Hallowing Lane. Units arrived
to find a trailer with heavy fire showing with a report of
people trapped, bringing the Working Fire Dispatch.
E22's crew pulled an attack line to the rear and started
working their way into the trailer to do a search. TL2
arrived, opened up and assisted with the search. RS2 arrived
and assisted with lighting. Three burned subjects were found
outside of the trailer and were quickly assessed. Two patients
were flown to Johns Hopkins Burn Center for further evaluation
and the third patient was transported to CMH for a check up.
The fire was knocked down in 15 minutes and the primary and
secondary were negative. Company 2 units operated for two
additional hours with overhaul and assisting the
investigators. |

Solomons
Island and Fox Run MVA |

24, 2010 - At 0019 hours, Rescue Squad 2 was alerted to Rescue
Box 2-16 for a personal injury accident. RS2 responded to
Solomons Island Road and Fox Run Boulevard and arrived to find
a single vehicle into a poll. The crew quickly secured the
vehicle and found the patient was already out. The patient was
packaged and transported to CMH for a check-up. RS2 cleared in
20 minutes. |

14, 2010 - On Saturday, the Prince Frederick Volunteers went
to Chesapeake Beach to support our war veterans at the 6th
Annual Fishing Trip. Every year, Operation Second Chance
assists in the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded service
men and women, by putting on this trip. All Volunteer Fire
Departments in Calvert as well as some of our neighboring
stations in PG County and Anne Arundel County came out to show
their support. While making their way down Rt. 260, the
Veterans were also greeted by much of the public who were on
side of the road waving flags. |

26, 2010 - At 0736 hours, Company 2 was alerted to Local Box
2-05 for an outside gas leak. E21, TL2, and C2A responded to
the 5200 block of Cutter Court. Company 2 units arrived to
find a 4" gas line that was struck by construction
workers. The Engine crew placed a hand line in-service while
waiting for the arrival of Washington Gas. After the arrival
of Washington Gas, the gas was shut off to Cutter Court while
workers repaired the line. Company 2 units cleared in one
hour. |

23, 2010 - At 0600 hours, Star 98.3 broadcasted their
"Firehouse Friday" show from Prince Frederick VFD.
While the show was going on, the public stopped in to check
out our fire prevention table, live drills and to eat with us.
Members had a lot of fun hanging out with T-Bone and Heather,
showing them what Calvert County's 100% Volunteer Fire
Department is all about.

13, 2010 - On Tuesday, the members got together and built a
bench for everyone to sit in out back. This will make a great
addition as we continually strive to improve the firehouse for
the members. Great job by all of the members that helped. |

8, 2010 - At 1445 hours, Engine Company 2 was alerted fourth
due to Box 6-17 for a house. E21 and Tnk2 responded to the
5800 block of Sunderland Court as first arriving units found a
two story single family with smoke showing. This brought Twr2
on the Working Fire Dispatch. E21 arrived third due as units
were attacking a basement fire. E21 with a crew of 6, split
into two crews and manned two lines on the first floor where
heavy fire conditions were found. Tnk2 arrived and assisted
with water supply. Tower 2 arrived and assisted units in the
basement with opening up. With several lines in place, the
fire was brought under control on all three levels a short
time later. Company 2 units operated for two hours. |

Receives Walmart Donation |

7, 2010 - On Wednesday, Walmart came through for the PF
Volunteers by donating a 52" Sanyo HDTV to replace the TV
in the Engine Bay, which was on it's last leg. Thank you
Walmart for your generous donation to those who serve the
community. |

4, 2010 - Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of
July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating
the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4,
1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great
Britain. Independence Day is commonly associated with public
and private events celebrating the history, government, and
traditions of the United States. Independence Day is the
national day of the United States. |

Solomons
Island Rd Building |

27, 2010 - At 1802 hours, Company 2 was alerted to Box 2-11
for a building. E21, E22 and TL2 responded to the unit block
of Solomons Island Rd, S. E21 arrived on side Alpha of a one
story strip mall with smoke showing from the roof. A small
fire was found in the roof area and quickly extinguished with
no further extension. The Box was held with Company 2 units in
30 minutes. |

20, 2010 - At 1657 hours, RS2 was alerted to Rescue Box 7-08
for a serious personal injury accident. RS2 responded to the
3900 block of Shamrock Court. Units arrived to find a single
vehicle accident with one ejected and another seriously
injured. RS2 secured the vehicle and assisted with packaging
the seriously injured patient which was flown to Prince
George's Trauma Center for further evaluation. Unfortunately,
the ejected patient succumbed to his injuries on the scene.
Our deepest condolences are with the family. |

16, 2010 - On Wednesday, the Prince Frederick Volunteers
attended the 118th Annual MSVFA parade in Ocean City, Md.
Calvert County was well represented with other apparatus from
North Beach, Solomons, St Leonard and Dunkirk as well. |

15, 2010 - On Tuesday evening, Life Member Doyle Cox was voted
President of the Maryland State Volunteer Fireman's
Association at the 118th Annual MSVFA convention in Ocean
City, Md. Congratulations to Doyle Cox for all of his hard
work. |

14, 2010 - The Prince Frederick Volunteers were recently
awarded a MIEMSS grant for the purchase of two new Medtronic
Lifepak 1000 AEDs'. PF now has four of the same AEDs' on our
apparatus to give our community better protection in a
life-threatening medical emergency. The new AEDs' have been
placed in service on E21 and Squad 2. The previous two have
been in service on E22 and B2. |

9, 2010 - At 1135 hours, E2 and TL2 were alerted to Box 6-02
for smoke. E21 and TL2 responded to the 300 block of Calverton
School Road. Units arrived on side Delta of a three story
educational facility with nothing showing. Upon entry, a light
haze was found. TL2 laddered the roof and found the source to
an air handle. Company 2 units operated for 30 minutes. |

Hallowing
Point and Hidden Spring |

5, 2010 - At 2120 hours, RS2 was alerted to Rescue Box 2-06
for a personal injury accident. RS2, E22, C2A and C2 responded
to Hallowing Point Road and Hidden Spring Trail. C2 arrived to
find two vehicles involved, four patients, and one trapped. A
quick door pop helped firefighters remove the patient. Company
2 units operated for 30 minutes. |
